Welcome to Walterboro SC, The Front Porch of the Lowcountry. Our small town is known for our Southern Hospitality and has so much to offer.
We are minutes from I-95, approximately 50 miles west of Charleston, 75 miles east of Columbia, and 65 miles north of Savannah.
Walterboro is very rich in history and was settled in 1784 by several Rice Plantation Owners. When visited today, it will take you back in time with the historical homes with broad porches and centuries-old live oaks, magnolias, azaleas, camellias, and beautiful churches. The first Library that the early planters built is still standing today along with many other historical buildings that is on the National Register of Historical Places.
Walterboro and Colleton County has something for just about anyone. People who are interested in art can visit the South Carolina Artisans Center. Our antique stores are unrivaled in their historic offerings. And, nature lovers can take advantage of our many rivers along the ACE Basin, the Great Swamp Sanctuary, the Donnelly Wildlife Center, and our beautiful year-round weather. While hiking, canoeing, hunting and cycling through some of the most beautiful pristine Lowcountry sites, you can see many of our historical plantations and our monument locations. So come for a visit, enjoy our nearby beaches, or make it your home.
